Work has officially begun in the Fajtata area as part of the Marsaskala Regeneration Project, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, announced.

The project, which also includes the reconstruction of the promenade and the introduction of a fast ferry service to Valletta, is designed to enhance the visual appeal of the area while improving accessibility and safety for residents and visitors alike.

Preparatory works in Fajtata have already started, including the cleaning of the site, removal of existing structures, and repairs to several walls.

As part of the development, new walkways will be created, access to the beach will be improved, and a new water basin will be built.

The materials used in the project will respect the surrounding natural environment, ensuring that the area complements its setting, similar to the earlier San Tumas Bay project.

The regeneration will also provide new open spaces for families, including a children’s recreational area, seating and picnic furniture, and an outdoor gym. These facilities are intended to create a safe and enjoyable environment where residents and visitors can spend time outdoors.

Minister Bonett described the project as an integral part of the Government’s commitment to enhancing public infrastructure while preserving the unique character of localities such as Marsaskala.

He highlighted that the improvements will allow thousands of Maltese residents and families to enjoy the area safely and accessibly.

Chief Executive of Infrastructure Malta Steve Ellul was also present at the announcement, saying that now summer is over, work has started immediately given that families make use of it as a picnic area in the winter seasons.
