‘Here’s a look back at how some familiar corners of UM have changed through the years.’

The university shared old photos of various spots around campus, taking us back in time to academic years stretching back years.

The university’s precursor was the Collegium Melitense, a Jesuit college which was set up in 1592. Originally located in an old Valletta house, a purpose-built college was constructed between 1595 and 1597. That is now known as the Valletta Campus.

The main campus saw plans for construction in the late 1950s after the capital city one was deemed too small.

The foundation stone of the campus was laid down on the 22nd of September 1964, a day after Malta’s independence. Construction was completed by 1970.
