HERE’S HOW THE PAOLA CHURCH WILL LOOK WITH THE NEW LIGHTING SYSTEM ANNOUNCED

A new lighting system for the Basilica of Christ the King in Raħal Ġdid is set to transform the church’s appearance, highlighting its architectural beauty while improving visibility across surrounding areas.
The project was announced by Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Minister Chris Bonett as part of a wider regeneration plan for the locality. Alongside upgrades to the main square, the modern lighting system will focus on enhancing the church’s façade and dome through carefully designed illumination.
The system will include advanced technology allowing individual control of lighting elements, with options such as dimming and different lighting scenes. These can be adjusted depending on the occasion, whether for daily use or special events and festivities, offering greater flexibility than traditional systems.
The project is expected to take around seven months to complete once works begin, following the issuing and awarding of the tender by the Public Works Department.
This initiative forms part of a broader investment of over one million euro in Raħal Ġdid, which also includes the ongoing redevelopment of the main square. Works there feature a new monument dedicated to Grand Master Antoine de Paule, a commemorative plaque marking 400 years of the locality, restored fountains, and new public spaces.
Officials say the combined projects aim to enhance both the visual appeal and community experience of the area while preserving its historical character.
