Here's Every Proposal That's Been Unveiled So Far: More To Come, Says PM Robert Abela

The Labour Party has unveiled a wide-ranging package of seven key proposals focused on improving quality of life, as part of its programme ahead of the general election.
Central to the plan are family-friendly measures, including extended maternity leave to 26 weeks, doubled paternity leave, and six months of fully paid parental leave funded by the government. Additional paid leave will also be granted to parents in a child’s early years.
Youths are set to benefit from a tax exemption on the first €30,000 earned during their first three years of work, alongside new housing schemes.
The “My First Home” proposal would see government offer interest-free loans covering 25% of a property’s value, while “Our Next Home” targets families upgrading to larger homes.
The package also includes a €5,000 birth bonus per child, fully funded therapy for children with disabilities, and a €50 weekly pension increase over five years, aimed at strengthening social support across all age groups.
Deputy PM Ian Borg attributed the possibility of implementing these proposals to the strength of our country’s economy.
“Throughout the past 13 years, the Labour Party in Government has committed itself measure after measure, a process that has built confidence and credibility,” continued Borg.
Alex Agius Saliba also spoke, stating that this is “another ambitious manifesto that will improve the quality of life in every stage of life.”
If the Labour Party is once again given the mandate, these measures will be applied retrospectively as of January 2026.
