Here Is How Police Are Trained To Respond During Emergencies

From physical restraint to firearms, police officers are trained to assess the situation and determine what level of force is needed in an emergency.
Officers are taught that the response should depend on the circumstances, the level of threat and the immediate danger to those involved.
The different interventions they can be trained to use include:
1. Physical restraint and control devices
2. Drawing or holstering a weapon
3. Pointing or aiming a weapon
4. Physical strikes
5. BolaWrap deployment
6. Chemical agents, such as pepper spray, which can cause a burning sensation for around 30 minutes
7. Batons
8. Taser deployment, with officers having around five seconds to act
9. Vehicle manoeuvres
10. K9 deployment
11. Mounted units
12. Firearms
The training is aimed at ensuring officers can quickly assess an incident and choose the most appropriate response, rather than automatically escalating to the highest level of force.
The key principle: knowing when each option is necessary, and when it is not.
