Here Are The Best Performing Female Candidates In This Election

One of the major talking points emerging from this election has been the strong performance of several female candidates across both major parties.

As the Labour Party secured its fourth consecutive electoral victory and maintained its lead over the Nationalist Party once again, a number of women also managed to register significant personal performances across multiple districts.

The results continue to fuel discussion around Malta’s gender corrective mechanism, with many arguing that the system has encouraged more women to contest elections while giving female candidates greater visibility and a stronger political platform.

Among Labour’s female candidates, Miriam Dalli and Rosianne Cutajar emerged as the party’s strongest female performers during this election. Dalli was elected on both the 5th and 11th districts, while Cutajar also registered a particularly strong showing across her districts.

Julia Farrugia also secured a solid performance, while Alicia Bugeja Said and Alison Zerafa Civelli registered notable results during the election.

On the Nationalist Party side, Rebekah Borg registered one of the strongest female performances overall while contesting on two districts. Paula Mifsud Bonnici, Eve Borg Bonello and Janice Abela Chetcuti also secured strong results, while Graziella Galea was elected on the 12th District.

Meanwhile, ADPD Chairperson Sandra Gauci also registered notable performances on both districts she contested on. Unlike PL and PN candidates, Gauci would not benefit from the gender corrective mechanism due to ADPD not qualifying under the current system.

The election once again highlighted the growing presence and influence of women within Maltese politics, with female candidates continuing to gain stronger electoral support across multiple parties.
