Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela Reveals New Gozo Hospital Helipad

Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela has confirmed that the contract for the long-awaited new helipad at Gozo General Hospital has been signed, with construction expected to begin shortly.

The project is anticipated to be completed in 2026, pending a smooth tender process and assuming no disputes arise regarding the contract award.

Until now, the absence of a dedicated helipad at Gozo General Hospital, as well as at Mater Dei Hospital until last December, had prolonged emergency transfers, forcing patients to land at St Luke’s Hospital before being moved to Malta.

The completion of the new helipad will significantly reduce transfer times, allowing urgent patients to reach Malta in approximately 15 minutes, improving critical care response and patient outcomes.
