Have You Noticed The Days Are Getting Longer? Here’s What’s Happening

Malta is celebrating a public holiday today, but there’s something else you might have noticed recently, the days are quietly getting longer.
As we move through March, sunset is happening later and later. Right now in Malta, the sun is setting at around 6:10pm, giving us noticeably more daylight compared to just a few weeks ago when it was closer to 5:40pm.
This shift happens because we’re approaching the spring equinox, which falls around March 20. On this day, daytime and nighttime are almost equal, and after that, daylight hours continue to increase steadily.
In simple terms, the Northern Hemisphere is tilting more towards the sun, meaning we get longer evenings, brighter skies, and that gradual transition into summer.
You’ll probably start noticing it in small ways, more time for evening walks, sunsets that stretch a little longer, and that golden hour hitting later in the day.
And it doesn’t stop here. Malta will officially switch to summer time on Sunday, March 29, when clocks move forward by one hour, meaning even longer evenings and more daylight to enjoy.
By early summer, Malta will be seeing sunsets as late as around 8:20pm, a big jump from where we are now.
So if it feels like the days are opening up again, you’re not imagining it, spring is officially on the way.
