Half Of Maltese Would Swap Their Car For A Motorcycle To Beat Traffic

In a question posed by Malta Daily, 50% of respondents said that they would be ready to swap their car for a motorcycle to beat the traffic.
With Malta’s roads getting busier and daily traffic becoming an even bigger headache, especially during school rush hour in winters, motorcycles are increasingly seen as one way of getting around the congestion.
New figures tabled in Parliament show that tens of thousands of drivers in Malta already hold licences allowing them to ride motorcycles.
According to information tabled by Minister for Sustainable Transport Chris Bonett, as of the end of May 2026, 30,503 individuals held Category A licenses.
33,839 individuals held Category A1 licenses, 31,190 held Category A2 licenses, and 324,585 held Category AM licenses.
Category A is the full motorcycle licence, while A1 covers motorcycles up to 125cc and 11kW. A2 allows motorcycles up to 35kW, while AM mainly covers mopeds and light quadricycles.
What about you? Would you swap your car for a motorcycle?
