GWU Announces Industrial Action Over Air Malta Employment Disputes
Local

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has announced industrial action at the Resource Support & Services Ltd. (RSSL) amid an ongoing dispute over employment conditions, existing benefits and outstanding financial obligations affecting former Air Malta employees.

The union said the action follows unsuccessful discussions with the company to reach an agreement in good faith.

It maintains that workers’ existing rights and conditions established under the current Collective Agreement and individual contracts must be protected. The GWU also says that obligations arising from the VETS Agreement must be fully honoured.

Salary arrears dating back to 2023 remain another point of contention, with the GWU insisting that these outstanding payments must be addressed fairly alongside the proposed salary increase mechanism.

The GWU has formally notified RSSL of the industrial action, stressing that the dispute goes beyond negotiations over new terms and conditions.

While remaining open to further discussions, the union insists that any resolution must guarantee existing benefits and fulfil all outstanding commitments. It also warned that it would pursue further industrial and legal avenues if necessary.
