The Government, Public Entities and Health Section of the General Workers’ Union (GWU) has announced industrial action in support of community care workers employed by Healthmark. This follows an ongoing industrial dispute that began on 2 October 2025.

The industrial action is scheduled to commence on Monday, 3 November 2025, and aims to safeguard the rights of care workers who have yet to receive the pay increase stipulated in Legal Notice 128 of 2024.

Despite the Union’s efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue, continued non-compliance has left it with no choice but to formally declare an industrial dispute. The GWU has also called on the Department of Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER) to initiate mediation proceedings in line with established procedures, urging that the matter be addressed as a matter of urgency.

This decision stems from the ongoing disparity between Healthmark care workers and their counterparts in the public sector, who perform equivalent roles under fairer conditions. The industrial action seeks to draw attention to the need for pay alignment in accordance with the law, equitable treatment, and recognition of the crucial role these care workers play in supporting the community.
