Guzeppi The Rescue Dog Loses Leg After Car Accident

Recently, AAA Malta rescued a severely injured dog, now named Guzeppi, who arrived at their facility in critical condition after being struck in the midsection.
He suffered major trauma to his chest and a fractured upper arm, which was initially treated with emergency orthopaedic surgery.
Despite the best efforts of veterinarians, Guzeppi’s injuries proved more extensive than first believed. The initial surgery revealed severe nerve damage and exposed tissue, forcing a second operation that resulted in the complete amputation of his mangled front leg.
AAA Malta shared the emotional update on Facebook, expressing regret that the limb could not be saved but relief that Guzeppi is now stable and back in their care.
“We wished we could have saved that arm, but it was simply beyond help,” they wrote.
Guzeppi’s condition had been touch-and-go for several days following the accident, and staff weren’t sure he would survive. Thanks to the tireless work of vets and the ongoing support from the public, Guzeppi is now on the road to recovery, though he still requires follow-ups and close monitoring.
AAA Malta once again highlighted the dangers of animal neglect and the high cost of such rescues, thanking their supporters whose donations make these life-saving efforts possible.
