Grand Harbour Revival Plan Announced

The government has announced the launch of the Grand Harbour Revival Plan, a national project about the long-term transformation of the Grand Harbour area.

The plan is about creating accessible public spaces, gardens, and open areas, while improving connections with Valletta and generating new employment opportunities. It also places an emphasis on sustainable investment and the preservation of Maltese architectural and cultural heritage.
A key focus of the project is about redeveloping the Marsa district, historically associated with industry, to make it accessible and enjoyable for the public.
The first phase, currently open for consultation, is about the area around the old power station. Plans for this zone include new roads, terraces, restaurants, an accessible marina, a ferry terminal, and spaces for events.
Historic buildings will be restored, and a national park is proposed, with environmental sustainability central to the designs.
The project is also about expanding development to neighbouring areas such as Valletta and Floriana, ensuring coordinated planning across the Grand Harbour region. Designers highlighted that the plan is about respecting Maltese culture and architecture while creating a world-class urban environment.
A six-week public consultation has been opened, about encouraging citizens to provide feedback.

Officials emphasise that the project is about the people, with public input considered essential to shaping a plan that benefits those who will use and enjoy the Grand Harbour in the future.
