Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has announced the launch of an Emergency Accommodation Reimbursement Scheme to support residents affected by the suspension of the Gozo Channel service between Gozo and Malta on 19 and 20 January 2026 due to severe weather conditions.

The scheme provides partial financial assistance for accommodation costs in licensed hotels, hostels, or other establishments for residents who were unable to return home.

Minister Camilleri explained that “our priority is to ensure that no Gozo resident needs to carry extra financial weight because of circumstances not in their control. This scheme reflects the Governments’s commitment to be there for Gozo.”

Many residents were unexpectedly stranded in Malta, facing inconvenience and unplanned expenses.

Applications can be submitted online via MyGozo or through the MyGozo App. Applicants must provide a valid ID card showing Gozo as their primary residence, along with official accommodation receipts detailing the establishment, dates, and total amount paid.

The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to supporting Gozo residents and intervening in exceptional situations to safeguard their needs.
