In less than a year since opening, the first specialised hub for vulnerable victims and victims of domestic violence in Gozo has assisted 150 individuals, with 113 cases nearly 75% brought before the courts.

Located in Victoria, Gozo, the centre has been operating since 20 September 2024, providing professional support from police officers, trained staff, and experts from various organisations, including the Family Services and Victim Support Agency. Services are designed to help victims navigate the legal system and receive necessary care in a safe environment.

The hub builds on earlier efforts by the Police Force, including the creation of the Gender-Based and Domestic Violence Unit in 2020 and the first Maltese hub for domestic violence victims in Santa Luċija in 2024.

The Gozo hub is the first of its kind on the island and operates daily with the continuous presence of police and support professionals.

During a visit to the centre, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri praised the work done to prepare the Police Force to assist victims, including the tripling of human resources and the introduction of joint initiatives with other stakeholders. He also noted the recent launch of a panic alarm button service by the Victim Support Agency in collaboration with the Police Force.
