Gozo Hosts 10th Edition Of The Greening The Islands International Conference

Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, addressed the 10th edition of the International Conference “Greening the Islands”, where he spoke about Gozo’s experience and its commitment towards sustainability. The conference, held under the theme “Expanding Holistic Island-led Solutions to Drive Global Sustainability and Climate Action”, was organised by the Greening the Islands Foundation between 29 and 30 October 2025. It focused on supporting the sustainability and self-sufficiency of islands worldwide by promoting innovative and nexus-smart projects.
Minister Camilleri remarked that, despite the island’s small size and the challenge of double insularity, Gozo remains determined to become a more sustainable and resilient island. Through the Regional Development Strategy for Gozo, the island is promoting responsible land use, the protection of biodiversity, sustainable development, and climate change mitigation, while also supporting economic growth and preserving its cultural heritage. The Minister highlighted ongoing initiatives such as afforestation projects, rainwater harvesting, improvements in energy efficiency, and the regeneration of parks and green spaces, all of which contribute to Gozo’s sustainable vision for the future.
This year’s event focused on advancing sustainability across key island sectors including energy, water, agriculture, and tourism. It featured a series of interactive sessions addressing global challenges while showcasing innovative, island-driven approaches to energy security, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
Minister Camilleri also underlined the importance of international collaboration in developing tailored solutions for island regions. He concluded his address by reaffirming Gozo’s commitment to continue playing an active role in these international collaborations aimed at achieving a greener and more sustainable future.
