A new measure aimed at encouraging elderly residents in Gozo to remain physically active has been introduced within the first 100 days of the new legislature, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri announced.

The initiative will provide elderly people with greater opportunities to use the facilities at the Sports and Aquatic Pavilion and take part in physical activity programmes designed specifically for them.

Minister Camilleri said the measure followed an electoral manifesto commitment to create more opportunities for elderly residents in Gozo to participate in initiatives that support an active lifestyle.

“We are continuing to strengthen initiatives of this kind at the Sports and Aquatic Pavilion, ensuring that elderly residents can also benefit from this important investment in sports in Gozo,” Camilleri said.

He added that the opportunities would allow elderly residents to remain active, adopt healthier lifestyles and continue contributing to society.

Applications can be submitted through an eID on servizz.gov, in person at the servizz.gov Hub in St Francis Square, Victoria, Gozo, through the MyGozo App, or via the website gozo.gov.mt. For more information, residents can call 2215 6620 or email elderly.mfg@gov.mt

The Minister also noted that October, which is dedicated to elderly people, will include a number of activities organised by the Ministry for Gozo, including intergenerational activities, educational talks and social initiatives promoting active and healthy ageing.
