Government To Revise Farmers’ Classification Rules As Ta’ Qali Farmers’ Market Set For September

Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that the government will publish revised regulations on the classification of farmers and livestock breeders this week, aiming to simplify procedures and provide more targeted support for the agricultural sector.
Speaking during a meeting with the Agriculture Consultative Council at Buskett, Abela said the updated framework will assess farmers based on their declared income rather than the size of their agricultural holdings, creating what he described as a fairer system.
The Prime Minister also confirmed that construction of the new Farmers' Market at Ta’ Qali will begin in September. The project is intended to provide improved facilities for farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen while expanding opportunities for direct sales and increasing public access to fresh local produce.
Abela reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening the sector through continued investment, digitalisation and reforms aimed at improving resilience, sustainability and farmers' incomes.
