Glenn Bedingfield: Fines Should Reflect Damage Caused to Residents

Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield said that he will be reviewing the current levels of certain fines after taking note of concerns raised by members of the public.
In a video message shared on social media while travelling to Ireland for a Council of Europe meeting, Bedingfield said he had the opportunity to read various statements and comments from the public and acknowledged that some concerns highlighted valid points.
The Minister agreed that certain fines currently imposed for specific contraventions may be too low and confirmed that he would be examining the relevant figures.
Bedingfield added that fines should reflect the seriousness of the offence, stating that their value should be proportional to the damage caused to residents and the impact of the contravention carried out by the individual responsible.
