Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that the government will begin consulting children next week on how they would like the new national park at White Rocks to be developed.

He said that children should have a direct say in shaping one of Malta’s largest upcoming green projects, emphasising that the initiative aims to create a space that reflects the needs and imagination of younger generations.

Speaking at an event in Zejtun, Abela highlighted that the planned White Rocks park forms part of a wider government commitment to expanding green and open areas for families.

He said that once major sites such as White Rocks, Manoel Island and Fort Campbell are returned to the public, Malta will have a greater proportion of protected land and park space than Germany and one and a half times that of Denmark, marking an important environmental milestone.

Abela also linked these environmental aims to broader national progress, noting that Malta currently enjoys the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union and continues to strengthen its economic performance.

He said that a growing economy allows government to invest more in quality of life, including cleaner, safer and more accessible public spaces.
