Government To Announce New Construction Damage Compensation Reserve

A new initiative aimed at providing greater protection to people affected by damage caused by construction works is set to be unveiled by Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Public Works Jonathan Attard.

In a statement, Attard announced that the Industry Guarantee Reserve will offer increased support to individuals impacted by construction-related damage, while strengthening accountability within the sector.

The proposed fund will be financed through contributions from developers when applying for clearance to commence construction works, according to the minister.

The initiative is intended to place greater responsibility on those carrying out construction projects and provide reassurance to communities living near development sites.

Further details on the administration of the reserve and how affected individuals will be able to access its support are expected to be announced on the 22nd of September.
