The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights has signed a transitional agreement with Fondazzjoni Sebħ for the management of Residenza Fatima. The residence will provide aftercare services to adolescents and adults who have often lived in care homes from a younger age.

This agreement between the State and the Church will allow Fondazzjoni Sebħ to establish a professional structure of social care staff working around the clock, offering consistent support to those facing emotional and financial difficulties. The service aims to continue monitoring the progress and challenges of the individuals it supports, helping them to move towards independent living.

Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, said, “Through this initial agreement, we avoided a situation where this residence was close to shutting its doors. We will never hesitate to step in during such moments, because I sincerely believe that every person deserves the best possible quality of life, particularly when they have experienced trauma.”

Director of Fondazzjoni Sebħ, Yvonne Mallia, added,  “Today is both a beautiful and important day for our foundation, as we are taking on responsibility for another residence. This means Fatima House will now form part of our existing network of four children’s homes and a shelter for women experiencing domestic violence.”

Residenza Fatima, previously run by the Ursuline Sisters, has long offered refuge and support to young people and adults who often lacked family and community backing. Under its new management, the home will continue to provide safety, professional care and hope for those most in need.
