Government Responds To PN’s Interpretation Of SME Survey

The Government has responded to the Nationalist Party’s interpretation of the latest SME Barometer survey, accusing the Opposition of presenting the findings in a misleading way while ignoring what it described as the broader picture.

In a statement, the Ministry for the Economy, Technology and Strategic Projects said the proportion of businesses believing it is not a good time to invest had fallen from 32% to 22%, while the number of those considering it a good time to invest had increased, arguing that this reflected improving business confidence.

The response follows the PN’s claim that the survey showed three in four SMEs do not see positive investment prospects and that a majority believe Malta is heading in the wrong direction.

The Government said it remains committed to improving competitiveness and productivity through initiatives including the MicroInvest scheme, €100 million in annual investment towards digitalisation and automation, and Malta Enterprise support, adding that Malta’s economic performance continues to be recognised by international institutions.
