The Government has pledged to regenerate areas affected by Storm Harry, with a particular focus on coastal localities that suffered extensive damage.

Speaking following a coordination meeting at the Auberge de Castille, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that restoration works will begin in the coming months in several affected areas, including Għar Lapsi, Wied il-Għajn, Marsaxlokk, Sliema and Xgħajra.

He confirmed that Għar Lapsi has been closed due to safety concerns, with works set to commence immediately so that parts of the area can be restored and reopened to the public in the coming months.

The Prime Minister explained that the Government’s regeneration efforts will run in parallel with assistance being provided to families and businesses impacted by the storm, ensuring that communities can recover in a timely and sustainable manner.

During the meeting, the Head of the Secretariat at the Office of the Prime Minister, Mark Mallia, outlined the implementation process for the regeneration works, as well as the mechanisms through which affected families and businesses will receive support to help offset storm-related expenses.

It was also announced that in the coming days the Cleaning and Maintenance Division will carry out a nationwide clean-up following the targeted operations conducted immediately after the storm.

This will be complemented by general maintenance works across the country. Infrastructure Malta has already carried out interventions in the worst-hit areas, while Transport Malta intervened around 50 times to address road safety hazards caused by fallen trees, damaged road signs and dislodged billboards.

The Government reaffirmed its commitment to a coordinated response aimed at restoring damaged localities, improving safety, and ensuring that affected communities can return to normality as quickly as possible.
