Government Launches Free Swimming Lessons Pilot For Children Aged 3-5

Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced the launch of a pilot project offering free swimming lessons to children, describing it as a key measure introduced within the Government's first 100 days in office.
During a visit to the Cottonera Sports Complex pool, PM Abela met coaches and administrators from local swimming schools, where he highlighted the importance of introducing children to sport from an early age.
He said the initiative would promote healthy lifestyles while helping youngsters develop discipline, independence and important life values.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government's commitment to investing in sport, saying it plays a vital role in improving the wellbeing of people across Malta and Gozo.
Following the pilot in Cottonera, the scheme is expected to be rolled out to other facilities nationwide.
Robert Abela also visited the voluntary organisation 'Just Keep Swimming,' which provides specialised lessons for children with disabilities.
Coach Leanne Xuereb Ungaro said the sessions help children build confidence, feel safe and improve their focus, adding that the programme is expected to have a positive impact when delivered during school hours.
