GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES €15 MILLION DIGITALISE YOUR SME SCHEME TO BOOST AI AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

The Government of Malta has launched Call 2 of the Digitalise your SME scheme, significantly increasing its investment from €5 million to €15 million. Co-financed by European Funds, the initiative aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises in adopting digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence to strengthen competitiveness, efficiency, and long-term resilience.
Through the scheme, businesses can access financial support for investments in digital systems, smart technologies, and innovative solutions that modernise their operations. The maximum grant available is €128,400 per eligible project, with aid intensity reaching up to 50% for investments in Malta and 60% for Gozo. Projects incorporating Artificial Intelligence may also benefit from an additional top-up of up to €107,000, bringing total possible support to €235,400.
Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi stated that the initiative is an important part of Malta Vision 2050, which aims to build a more digital and resilient economy. Economy Minister Silvio Schembri highlighted that the investment forms part of a broader €100 million strategy focused on Artificial Intelligence and innovation.
The scheme is administered on an open rolling basis, with the first cut-off date set for 31 July 2026, and applications opening from 1 July 2026 via fondi.eu. Information sessions will also be organised in collaboration with business chambers and SEM to support applicants.
The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) will oversee the AI component, ensuring responsible implementation and ethical standards in digital transformation.
