Government Calls On Local Councils To Report Hazardous Emergency Situations Caused By Storm Harry

The Government has announced that it will begin targeted interventions across localities affected by Storm Harry, which caused widespread and severe infrastructural damage across Malta in recent days.
In a statement issued by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, it was confirmed that the Public Works Department, together with Infrastructure Malta, will be carrying out urgent repairs where necessary.
Local councils have been urged to report storm-related damage, particularly hazards, emergency situations, and issues affecting accessibility, either through an official reporting form or by contacting the department directly.
Significant damage has already been recorded in several coastal areas, including Mellieħa, Marsaskala, Xgħajra, Kalkara, and Għar Lapsi.
Minister Chris Bonett said the reporting process will help ensure repairs are carried out immediately, stressing that families, workers, and business owners will not be left to face the consequences alone. Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia thanked local councils and workers involved in restoration efforts.
The public is once again urged to avoid closed coastal areas to safeguard public health and safety while repair works continue.
