The Government has announced €25 million in coordinated funding for a new Holistic Care Centre for Children and Families in Mosta, which will be administered by Puttinu Cares.

The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri, and Puttinu Cares President Angele Cuschieri.

The funding will cover both the construction of the centre and its operation for the first five years. It will be financed through substantial philanthropic donations linked to the Citizenship by Merit framework. The Government has already allocated public land for the project.

The centre will offer more than medical care. It will provide psychological support, therapy, and educational services, allowing children to continue their studies during treatment. Support will also be offered to families facing difficult moments, including bereavement.

Prime Minister Robert Abela said the project reflects a Government that supports families in times of need. He confirmed that donors making significant contributions may be considered for citizenship by merit, subject to strict due diligence and legal requirements approved unanimously by Parliament.

Minister Byron Camilleri described the project as one of national importance, saying it will raise support for families affected by cancer to a new level and introduce services not currently available in Malta.

Angele Cuschieri said the centre will allow Puttinu Cares to support families from the very first moment of hardship, easing their burden while preserving dignity and care.

Following the press conference, Prime Minister Robert Abela and his wife Lydia Abela, together with ministers and Puttinu Cares representatives, visited children at Rainbow Ward at Mater Dei Hospital, where Christmas gifts were distributed through the Rigal bi Mħabba initiative.
