Government & Opposition Meet To Discuss Malta Vision 2050

Representatives from the Government and the Opposition met this week to discuss Malta Vision 2050, a long-term national initiative designed to shape the country’s development beyond electoral cycles.
The meeting marked another step in the ongoing dialogue between both sides, following an earlier session held in February.
Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri described the discussion as part of a shared effort to work together for the future of Malta.
He emphasised that Malta Vision 2050 aims to define the kind of country that future generations will inherit.
Schembri reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining open dialogue and listening to all perspectives as the process continues.
In its official feedback, the Nationalist Party (PN) welcomed the opportunity for collaboration but urged the Government to adopt a more ambitious approach.
The PN argued that the Vision must place people’s needs at the centre, focusing on quality rather than quantity and ensuring that economic growth translates into better lives for all Maltese and Gozitan citizens.
Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione stressed the importance of reaching national consensus on Malta’s future, while Shadow Minister Jerome Caruana Cilia called for clearer links between growth, sustainability and social well-being.
The PN also identified gaps in governance, education, and environmental targets, while expressing readiness to continue contributing constructively to the Vision’s development.
