As announced in the 2026 Budget, the Government will allocate more than €154 million to the St Vincent de Paul complex next year a record sum representing almost 46% of the total Active Ageing budget, which now exceeds €337 million. This marks an increase of over €18 million compared to 2025, demonstrating a sustained commitment to strengthening geriatric care in our country.

At a press conference, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea stated,"This increase is a clear signal of our vision, which goes beyond providing care. We are building a comprehensive system that serves every stage of an older person’s life. From palliative services to specialised clinics and intermediate care, we want to be present with a response for every need."

Among the most recent investments are the full renovation of St Francis Wards 1 and 2, the opening of a new palliative care unit, the installation of a new CT scanner, and the initiation of projects for an MRI scanner and dialysis services.

The first therapeutic barn, “Razzett l-Ħena”, has also opened, alongside recreational areas such as mini-golf and a bocce pitch.

It was also announced that next year a tender will be issued for the construction of a new 300-bed hospital within St Vincent de Paul – an investment expected to revolutionise elderly care in Malta. The Budget for the coming year not only addresses today’s challenges but also invests sustainably in the quality of life of our senior citizens, as part of the Malta 2050 Vision, envisioning a country where ageing means activity, knowledge, and dignity – at home, in the community, and in long-term care.

Jorgen Souness, Chief Executive Officer of St Vincent de Paul, remarked:
"This investment does not only improve infrastructure; it reflects the respect we hold for every resident, ensuring that their lives remain active, safe, and worthy of the care they deserve."
