Fun Facts You May not Know About: Msida!

Hello, little adventurers! Let me tell you about Msida a small but super‑busy harbour town in Malta. It’s just a hop, skip and a boat‑row away from the capital city, Valletta
Msida was once a cosy fishermen’s village its name probably comes from an Arabic word meaning “a fisherman’s dwelling”. But today, it’s like a buzzing beehive filled with students, buses, and sparkling boats bobbing in the marina. Every summer (especially in July), Msida gets even more exciting when the town throws a festival for Saint Joseph. The highlight? il‑Ġostra, a hilarious contest where brave people try to run along a very greasy pole and grab a scarf before flying into the sea!
There are a few key landmarks that make Msida cool:
St Joseph’s Church is a grand baroque building finished in 1889 and blessed in 1894
Msida Marina is full of boats nestled snugly in the harbour great for watching and imagining sea voyages.
Mater Dei Hospital, opened in 2007, is one of Malta’s biggest hospitals and an important part of the town.
Oh, and did I mention Msida is a major traffic and bus hub? Lots of buses zoom through, connecting people to Valletta, Sliema, and beyond
