FSSA Launches Food Safety Checks Following Firework Factory Explosion
Local

The Food Safety and Security Authority (FSSA) has launched precautionary measures following the firework explosion that occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning, with officials assessing any potential impact on food, feed and agricultural produce in surrounding areas.

In a statement, the Authority said it immediately activated its response mechanisms in line with its responsibilities under the Food Safety and Security Authority Act.

Authorities are currently carrying out inspections, sampling and risk assessments to determine whether debris, combustion residues or other contaminants may have affected food production and supply chains.

The FSSA is working closely with relevant entities, farmers, food and feed producers, and food business operators to identify and address any potential risks as quickly as possible.

The Authority said these efforts are aimed at safeguarding public health while providing guidance and support to those affected.

The FSSA reassured the public that food and feed safety remains its top priority and stressed that ongoing monitoring and science-based assessments are being conducted to ensure food reaching Maltese households remains safe for consumption. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
