From 26 Grams To Returning To The Wild: Hobbes’ Journey

Nature Trust Malta shared a video of Hobbes, a hedgehog who came into their care in July, being released back into the wild.

When he was found, Hobbes was tiny, fragile and nowhere near ready to survive on his own.

Hobbes spent the first crucial weeks with one of the dedicated foster volunteers, who cared for him until he was strong enough to move on to the rehabilitation centre and take the next steps towards independence.

And now, the tiny hoglet became a strong, curious little hedgehog. And now he gets to return back to the wild.

‘And he certainly didn’t waste any time. A few cautious sniffs, a little look around… and off he went, discovering pine needles, leaves, interesting smells and a whole new world that is finally his to explore.’

All the animals rescued by Nature Trust are protected species and it is illegal in Malta to keep them as pets or harm them.

The volunteers have wildlife handling permits and training, as well as equipment in order to rescue the creatures. If you spot any of these animals and require assistance, please call the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta on 99999505.
