French pâtissier, Geoffrey Barault, has turned one of Malta’s most recognisable landmarks into a dessert masterpiece. He constructed a cake inspired by The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta.

Known for its majestic dome that dominates the city’s skyline, the basilica is a powerful symbol of Malta’s faith, resilience, and beauty.

Originally built in the late 16th century and later destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt in the 20th century with its signature dome rising proudly once again above the capital.

Barault’s creation captures that same spirit in edible form, crafted from almond biscuit, crunchy praliné, intense vanilla mousse, and raspberry confit.

Sharing his work on social media, he wrote: “A landmark that dominates the skyline and captures the spirit of Malta’s capital. Its majestic dome is not just an architectural icon, but a reminder of history, faith, and beauty combined. That’s why Valletta feels so unique.”

The result is not only a feast for the eyes but a reminder that architecture, like gastronomy, can be an act of devotion.
