French and Italian police officers will join the Malta Police Force on patrol this summer as part of international cooperation aimed at strengthening public safety and maintaining public order.

A French police officer will be deployed to Malta this month, followed by Italian officers in August.

The visiting officers will accompany their Maltese counterparts on preventive patrols and public order duties, helping to enhance the police presence during the busy summer period.

While they will wear their own national uniforms, the foreign officers will not be armed and will not exercise executive powers. Instead, they will serve in a supporting role alongside local officers.

The exchange follows a similar initiative in June last year, when Maltese police officers travelled to France to assist the French Police during security operations for a United Nations conference.

Officials said the reciprocal deployments reflect the strong and longstanding cooperation between the respective law enforcement agencies, highlighting a shared commitment to cross-border collaboration and effective policing.
