Franco Debono Speaks Out On Political Party Fundraisers

In a post shared on social media, lawyer and former PN MP Franco Debono commented on both Partit Laburista and Partit Nazzjonalista raising record breaking amounts in fundraising marathon.

‘To understand just how ridiculous and messed-up this country is, yesterday the two parties, without a care in the world, collected more than one million euros between them, while at the same time the Party Financing Act has been left paralysed’, wrote Debono.

This comes as the Labour Party raised €1,130,016 and the Nationalist Party announced that it raised €730,384.

‘The Party Financing Act, which I wrote, presented in Parliament and pushed through as much as I could, is the anti-corruption law par excellence. It ensures transparency over that million euros collected yesterday and over every euro collected by parties throughout the year.’

How are we supposed to know whether there were donations made in breach of the law yesterday if the law is paralysed, he asked.

‘Without a second thought, the parties publicly boast about how much they collected and the local portals report the news as if nothing is wrong.’

‘Thousands of students graduate every year, so what exactly are universities teaching? On top of that, we have the largest parliament in the world per capita, and everyone just poses and warms their seat.’

‘I will repeat myself so that everyone understands clearly. You should be ashamed. A ridiculous, messed-up country, choked by ignorance. A gullible population.’
