Local
Former UK Prime Minister Theresa May shared her personal experience of being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes during an address in Malta’s parliament on Saturday.
Speaking at the Global Parliamentary Champions for Diabetes conference, May urged legislators worldwide to intensify efforts to improve awareness and expand access to life saving technology.
Various local political figures shared photos of her visit to social media, commending her for presenting her story in such an open manner to raise awareness about diabetes.
She said going public with her diagnosis helped normalise diabetes in political life, noting that visible use of her monitor even prompted women to ask their doctors about the technology.
