Former Nationalist MEP Lee Bugeja Bartolo took to social media where he stated that Malta should follow in Italy’s footsteps, banning hijabs in classrooms and limiting the number of foreigners.

This comes after Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced plans to introduce a cap on the number of foreign students allowed in individual classrooms, saying the measure is intended to improve integration within Italy's education system.

Bugeja Bartolo stated that “Malta must immediately follow in Italy’s footsteps.”

He concluded by questioning the country’s efforts in protecting “our national identity,” stating, “If our neighbours have the strength and resolve to protect their national identity, why cant we?”
