Bernard Grech, former leader of the Nationalist Party, publicly congratulated Alex Borg following his election as the party’s new leader.

Grech wrote, “Congratulations to Alex Borg on being elected the new Leader of the Nationalist Party. This morning, before addressing the final session of the General Convention, I promised him that he will find me behind him, continuing to serve within the Nationalist Party that we love so much for the good of Malta and Gozo. Thank you all for your full support during this journey. It has been a privilege to serve as Leader of this Party and of the Opposition. Now our duty is to unite behind one Leader for the good of our country. My heartfelt congratulations, Leader.”Alex Borg, 30, secured the PN leadership in the early hours of Sunday morning, winning by a narrow margin of 44 votes over former leader Adrian Delia.

Borg’s election made him the youngest-ever head of a major political party in Malta.
