Flu Vaccination Season To Begin In Malta On Monday, Ian Borg Confirms

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Ian Borg has announced that Malta's seasonal influenza vaccination programme will officially begin on Monday, 2nd November.
Taking to social media, Borg shared that he had already received his flu jab, encouraging members of the public to follow suit.
"Jien ħadt it-tilqima kontra l-influwenza staġjonali. Minn nhar it-Tnejn li ġej, int ukoll tista’ tagħmel bħali," he wrote.
He also shared the message, "Inqas influwenza, aktar mumenti għalik," highlighting the importance of protecting oneself against seasonal influenza.
The announcement comes just weeks after concerns emerged that Malta could face significant delays in receiving its flu vaccine supply.
Earlier this month, Borg revealed that the company responsible for supplying the vaccines had informed authorities that deliveries might not arrive until January 2027 due to international supply difficulties.
However, following discussions with Italian counterparts, Malta managed to secure tens of thousands of vaccine doses within 24 hours, with the shipment arriving on the island in less than a week.
The Health Ministry had previously indicated that the vaccination programme would begin between late October and early November, allowing protection to build ahead of the peak flu season.
This year's rollout is also expected to involve greater cooperation with local councils to make vaccinations more accessible to communities across Malta.
Seasonal influenza vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious illness and complications, particularly among older people, vulnerable individuals and those with underlying health conditions.
With flu season approaching, the public is encouraged to follow the health authorities' guidance on getting vaccinated.
