Flight Radar Sows Malta Registered Private Jet After Super Bowl 2026

Social media account Flightradar24 revealed the amount of private chats heading back home after this year’s Super Bowl show, with a number of Malta-bound flights becoming quite visible.
The flights took off from Oakland International Airport California, and shows a whole exodus of both internal (US) and external flights taking their passengers back home after the yearly spectacle.
The Super Bowl LX took place on February 8th, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with Bad Bunny stealing the half-time show in a record breaking performance.
Private planes are often registered in Malta because of its attractive tax and regulatory framework. One of the main reasons is Malta’s VAT treatment on aircraft leasing structures, where VAT can be calculated based on the estimated time the aircraft operates within EU airspace. For jets that mainly fly outside the EU, this can significantly reduce the effective VAT burden.
As an EU member state, Malta also offers the advantage of EU registration status, allowing aircraft to operate freely within European airspace under a respected legal system. The aviation registry, managed by Transport Malta, is known for being creditor-friendly, English-speaking, and well-structured for aircraft financing and leasing.
In addition, Malta does not impose heavy annual aircraft taxes, and many jets are registered through Maltese companies rather than individuals, allowing for efficient corporate structuring and asset protection. Overall, it’s typically about legal tax planning and operational flexibility rather than simple tax avoidance.
