Flight Cancellations Possible as Mount Etna Eruption Disrupts Operations

KM Malta Airlines has issued a statement warning passengers that ongoing volcanic activity at Mount Etna is creating an unpredictable and rapidly changing operating environment at Catania Airport.
The airline said it is working closely with Catania Airport and the relevant authorities to maintain scheduled operations whenever it is safe to do so. However, volcanic activity, prevailing winds and weather conditions can change rapidly and, in some cases, with very little notice.
According to KM Malta Airlines, where sufficient advance information is available, the airline will make every effort to notify affected passengers as early as possible. However, deteriorating conditions or the introduction of operational restrictions at short notice could result in flights being delayed or cancelled close to their scheduled departure times.
The airline acknowledged the inconvenience and uncertainty that such last-minute changes can cause passengers, but stressed that safety remains its overriding priority.
KM Malta Airlines said it will not hesitate to cancel a flight, even at short notice, if changing volcanic or weather conditions present a potential risk to the safe operation of the service.
The airline added that its operational teams will continue working closely with Catania Airport and the relevant authorities to maximise every opportunity to operate scheduled services safely while the situation remains dynamic.
