FKNK’s Game Recipes From Malta Awarded “Best Game Meat Book In The World”

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) is celebrating international acclaim after its publication, Game Recipes from Malta, won the “Best Game Meat Book in the World” award at the 31st Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This prestigious recognition highlights Malta’s culinary heritage on a global stage. With entries from 96 countries across five continents, the accolade is particularly significant as Game Recipes from Malta is the first book of its kind ever published in Malta.

Produced in collaboration with thirteen local chefs and featuring thirty traditional and contemporary recipes, the book showcases Malta’s unique game cuisine, highlighting techniques and flavours long enjoyed at home but previously absent from formal cookbooks.

The award honours the dedication and creativity behind the publication while strengthening Malta’s presence in the international conversation on sustainable game cuisine and culinary heritage.

Senior editor and FKNK CEO Lino Farrugia had long aimed to publish the book, and when young FKNK president Lucas Micallef shared this vision, the two editors brought the project to life. The book was officially launched from the FKNK stand at the Malta AgriFair in April 2024.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, founded in 1995, celebrate the best in food and wine publications and television programmes.

Edouard Cointreau, founder and chairman of the awards committee, praised the book for highlighting Malta’s rich tradition of game cuisine and commended the efforts of the chefs, editors, and contributors.

Game Recipes from Malta is distributed by BDL Books and is available from leading bookshops in Malta and Gozo, as well as from the FKNK offices in Msida.
