The National Statistics Office has reported five road traffic fatalities in Malta during the second quarter of 2025, covering the months of April to June.

This figure stands in stark contrast to July 2025, which recorded six fatalities in just a few days, making it one of the deadliest weeks in recent memory.

Between April and June, the total number of reported traffic accidents reached 4,026, representing a 9.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

Despite the overall drop, the Northern Harbour district, encompassing areas such as Birkirkara, Sliema, and Imsida, remained the most accident-prone, registering 1,366 cases or 33.9% of all incidents.

The time of day also played a significant role. The highest number of road traffic accidents occurred between 09:00 and 11:59, with 884 cases, accounting for 22.0% of the total.

This was closely followed by the 12:00 to 14:59 bracket, which saw 880 accidents. In contrast, the period between 03:00 and 05:59 registered the fewest accidents, with just 33 reported cases.
