Fire Reportedly Breaks Out In ‘Illegal’ Dumping Site In Marsa

The Malta Ranger Unit reported that a small fire turned into a big one in what they described as an illegal dumping site in Marsa.

The ranger unit contacted the Environmental & Resources Authority (ERA) and Civil Protection Malta, with both arriving shortly after.

‘This is a prime example of how the issue with illegal waste dumping and littering is not only causing a visual negative impact on our environment’, said the rangers.

The unit urged authorities to increase fines for such illegal activity, and exercise their legal rights to confiscate vehicles when used for dumping of waste.

‘The fines aren't high enough. When offenders weigh the chance of getting caught and the fines if they are caught against the process of disposing it legally, they are willing to take the risk.’
