Bur il-Kbir Road in Siġġiewi is expected to fully reopen in the coming days as Infrastructure Malta's road widening and improvement project enters its final phase.

The project, which began earlier this year, covers around 1.2 kilometres and is intended to improve road safety, ease traffic flow and strengthen connectivity in the area.

During a visit to the site, Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Jonathan Attard reviewed the final works, which include the construction and reconstruction of traditional rubble walls.

The minister explained that 620 metres of new rubble walls were built along sections where the road was widened, while a further 450 metres of existing rubble walls were rebuilt in areas where widening was not required.

The project also includes the planting of 75 new trees on third-party properties as part of the environmental measures linked to the works.

Infrastructure Malta architect Rebecca Grech said widening works were carried out across approximately 850 square metres, while around 7,200 square metres of road surface were resurfaced with new asphalt.

She added that the final stage of the project includes road markings, with the upgraded road providing two opposing traffic lanes to improve traffic flow and safety.
