The regeneration works at Marina Garden in Pietà are nearing completion, following a joint effort between the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) and Ambjent Malta.

During a recent site visit, Minister for the Environment and Energy, Miriam Dalli, highlighted the significance of restoring this historic garden to create a safe, modern, and accessible space for the whole community.

“With this regeneration, we are restoring a historic garden and creating a safe, modern, and accessible space for everyone from families and the elderly to those who cycle or jog. Alongside the creation of new areas, we are ensuring the existing spaces are revitalised and used as intended,” said Minister Dalli.

Also present at the visit were GHRC Chief Executive Officer Gino Cauchi and his technical team; Ambjent Malta’s Director General Herman Galea and Director for Environmental Projects Josianne Muscat; and Pietà Mayor Stefano Savo.

Covering an area of 4,400 square metres, the regeneration includes a new greenway stretching approximately 210 metres, designed for cyclists and joggers to use safely and without obstruction.

Around 980 square metres of pathways have been replaced, alongside upgrades to recreational facilities, the garden’s fountain, and lighting systems. Restoration and maintenance work is also ongoing on existing monuments. Ambjent Malta is undertaking beautification efforts, planting various trees, shrubs, and seasonal plants. An irrigation system is being installed to ensure the greenery is watered throughout both summer and winter months.

Mayor Stefano Savo described the project as “both necessary and ambitious,” adding, “I am pleased that the garden’s original character has been preserved, while also introducing recreational spaces suitable for all ages. There are areas where children can play, spaces for physical activity, and tranquil spots for rest and relaxation in a pleasant setting.”
