Fifth Edition of Emanuele Luigi Galizia Award Launched to Celebrate Excellence in Architecture

The fifth edition of the Emanuele Luigi Galizia Award has been officially launched, aiming to further recognise excellence in architecture, planning and Malta’s built environment.
The award is organised through a collaboration between the Planning Authority and the Kamra tal-Periti (Chamber of Architects), creating a stronger national platform to celebrate outstanding contributions within the sector.
During the launch, Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Jonathan Attard highlighted the importance of good planning in ensuring Malta’s sustainable development while improving quality of life and protecting the interests of future generations.
He said planning goes beyond permits and regulations, focusing also on how Malta’s towns and villages are shaped, the preservation of natural and cultural heritage, and the quality of public spaces.
The new edition follows the merger of the Malta Architectural and Spatial Planning Awards, introduced by the Planning Authority in 2019, with the Emanuele Luigi Galizia Award. The move is intended to create a more inclusive and representative national award covering the entire profession.
A joint committee between the Planning Authority and Kamra tal-Periti has been established to further strengthen the initiative and enhance recognition of professional achievements.
Planning Authority Executive Chairman Johann Buttigieg described the award as an important recognition of architects’ and students’ achievements, while Kamra tal-Periti President Perit Andre Pizzuto stressed the value of collaboration in shaping Malta’s built environment.
The winner of the national award will also have the opportunity to participate in a European-level architecture award. Applications and further details are available through the official award website.
