Malta Daily can exclusively reveal that during tonight’s highly anticipated Budget 2026 announcement, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana will announce the extension of the Free Gyms Scheme for teens, widening it to include even more age groups starting next year.

Last year, the government introduced a landmark initiative granting free gym memberships for six months to individuals born between 2005 and 2007, encouraging more young people to embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Now, Malta Daily can confirm that this initiative will not only be renewed for another year, but also expanded to include anyone born between 2004 and 2009, effectively opening up the scheme to youths aged between 16 and 21.

This means that thousands more young people across Malta and Gozo will soon benefit from a six-month free gym membership as part of the government’s continued commitment to promote fitness, wellbeing, and healthy living among the younger generation.

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana is expected to officially unveil the measure during tonight’s Budget 2025 speech, which is scheduled to begin at around 6:30pm.

In a recent address, Prime Minister Robert Abela described this year’s budget as “one of the most ambitious this country has ever seen”, and this youth-focused announcement seems set to reinforce that message.
