European Parliament President Marks Ukrainian Independence Day

European Parliament President and Maltese MEP Roberta Metsola has marked Ukrainian Independence Day with a message of solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine.
In a video shared on social media, Metsola dedicated her message to the people of Ukraine, congratulating them on the anniversary of the country’s independence. Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union on 24 August 1991.
Metsola said the occasion was not only a day for celebration, but also a moment to reflect on the sacrifices Ukrainians have made, and continue to make, in defence of their country’s freedom.
She praised the strength and resilience demonstrated by ordinary Ukrainians both on and off the battlefield, saying their actions continue to show the world the true meaning of independence.
Metsola also reaffirmed the European Parliament’s support for Ukraine, assuring Ukrainians that they could rely on the institution to continue fighting for their freedom and their rightful place in the European Union.
She concluded by expressing hope for a future in which Ukrainians can once again live in peace, as Europe continues to stand alongside the country during its ongoing struggle for sovereignty and independence.
